The Sound Alphabet of Movement

online experiment

An experimental approach to movement notation through sound

DE/CH

2023-ongoing

About_
The Sound Alphabet of Movement explores how movement qualities such as direction, shape, and force can be expressed and notated solely through sound. Developed collaboratively online, this dancer-centered experiment uses vocal and body-generated sounds as signals for movement patterns.

Instead of relying on visual cues, the project integrates auditory and tactile senses to create a unique, intuitive „alphabet“ of sounds representing different gestures. While transferability remains experimental, the focus lies on personal interpretation and creative freedom.

_Currently, the Sound Alphabet of Movement continues to evolve through testing comprehensibility and generating choreographic sequences from combined sound „letters,“ offering new possibilities for notation and expression beyond traditional visual systems.
