Material Girls Vol. 2_

The performance collective Material Girls opened the second edition of their interdisciplinary performance series in October 2023 at M BOOKS Space in Weimar. Over the course of five days, invited artists and the core collective (Stella Dragovic, Cora Groos & Celine Loesche) explored the tactile, symbolic, and transformative potential of the materials sand, water, and plaster. In this context, the gallery space became a site of embodied artistic investigation. Through actions such as digging, pouring, drying, and dissolving, the materials themselves became active agents, calling forth movement, sound, and discourse.

Our Performance_

As part of the series, I collaborated with cellist Tobias Gassert to develop a site-specific performance that explored the physical and acoustic qualities of sand, water, and stone. Through an interplay of movement and sound, we investigated how each material could be embodied and sonified. At times allowing the sound to lead the movement, at others letting the movement generate the sound. Our approach was rooted in an intuitive and research-driven process, where spatiality, texture, and resonance became choreographic and compositional tools. The work invited a continuous dialogue between body and instrument, revealing the distinct character of each element: the fragility of sand, the fluidity of water, and the solidity of stone.
